Question

I have a 17 branch irrigation system with 125 heads on 4 different company body types. As a retired engineer trying to fine tune that system I have been frustrated by not being able to find the 'subject nozzle heads'. It is made by Hunter but has no part number except for the 10'A (throw)and 1'-335', and pat # 4579825, which looks very little like this adjustable 7/8" diameter nozzle This flimsy nozzle head screws onto a 4 inch riser with a screw in the top center and no threads anywhere else for any alternate nozzle. The collar that screws into the body to hold the 4" riser just says Hunter and stamped 3 and 95 (date of manufacture?, that's when the home was built) a 9 or 6? and made in America. See pictures.
Where can I find these adjustable nozzles (can't find it on the internet) and is there an alternative to replacing the whole body of which I have at least 40 of them...Thanks in advance, Gene
AnswerHey Gene, what you have is a hunter 4" pop-up spray head. The nozzle is built into the shaft, and so once it breaks, the head is no longer good and needs to be replaced. I know hunter has changed their design on some of the spray heads, and since we don't use their products, I do not know if this head is still available. If it is, then instead of replacing the whole body, you could unscrew the cap from the new head, and the cap from the old head, and just replace the "guts" and not have to dig up the whole head. If you do find that you need to replace the whole head, I would suggest using a Rainbird 1800 series spray head with a non fixed nozzle. This way if the nozzle clogs up or doesn't spray right, you can unscrew the nozzle from the top of the head, and either clean it or replace it, without having to replace the whole head. Your head doesn't have a separate nozzle to replace, once it breaks, the whole shaft needs to be replaced. Good luck and have a great day.
