Hello,
Thanks for the generous advice. My 2001 rain bird controller (ESP-6) is buzzing louder than usual and the box is hot.

We noticed this because the sprinklers are acting funny. Sometimes certain sections don't stop running and it is not always the same section.

Could it be the transformer? This did happen after a storm of 4 days.

Hi Nadine,

Could be the transformer or the controller. Try this, turn off the power to the controller, take out the battery, disconnect the ribbon cable that runs from the back of the face plate to the controller cabinet, wait 10 minutes. Reinstall the battery, turn on the power , turn off the controller and reconnect the ribbon cable. Do not worry the ribbon connector has only one way to go in. Turn on the controller and see.

Next try, replace the transformer.
