QuestionI just purchased a house with a sprinkler system. I've never had one before. I went to start it up and it didn't work so I checked everything and after much looking into I am noticing that when I turn on any sprinkler zone I get power everywhere but the relay on the PSR isn't clicking on. I know this because when I manually push the relay and the sprinklers work as I stand there holding a screwdriver with the relay pushed in. Does this mean I need a new PSR? Or is there something else I am missing?
AnswerHey dominic, it could be the relay, but before you replace it, check a couple things out. First, turn your controller on to any zone. In the back of the controller, check your voltage at the terminal marked c (for common) and P or Mv (for pump or master valve). It should read between 22 to 26 volts. If you are not getting a good reading, then the controller is not working correctly, and needs to be repaired or replaced. If you are getting a good reading, then check the wires at the relay, If you are still getting 22 to 26 volts, then the relay is bad and needs replaced. If at the controller you are getting the right reading, but not at the relay, then the wire is bad and needs replaced. Good luck and have a great day.
