QuestionI am having a problem with a Toro TMC Controller. The unit is about 4 years old and it was working fine until recently. Now the unit will not function at all. The LCD screen is completely blank and the unit does not respond.
From what I have read, I see this may be a power issue, but to my knowledge, the unit is getting power. I checked the breaker but it wasn't tripped and everything looks ok in there. The unit is outside of the home and is directly wired to its' own electrical box. I opened up the box and the wires inside look fine (no visible damage or burned wires). I'm not an electrician so I just looked at them, but other than that, I can't figure out what is wrong. I opened the toro unit as well and everything "looks" ok inside too. The unit will just not respond. The only thing I can think of is of a recent storm and lighting strikes that knocked out the power and may have blown the unit out.
The unit itself is not flashing "fuse" or anything else. It is completely blank.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
AnswerHey Rick, what you want to check, is that the unit is receiving 24 volts from the transformer. Take a volt/ohm meter, and in the back of the controller, you will see where two wires are connected and are marked 24 vac. Take a reading across these wires and see if you get 22 to 26 volts. If you do, then the unit is probably damaged. If you don't get a good reading, then the transformer is probably bad, and needs to be replaced. Good luck and havbe a great day.
