GFCI outlets and sprinkler systems

Question
I have a Hardie system that was installed in the early 90's. Last week an inspector tested the GFCI in the garage by tripping it, and then reset it. This disconnected the power to the unit. The system would not come on after that and I was told that I need a new control board. Is it possible to trip a GFCI, reset it and have it burn out the board?

Answer
Hey Jeff, it is possible that you got a power surge and burned out the board, but this is not a common occurance. Are you sure you have power going to the unit? Check that you indeed have 110 volts getting to the controller. Also, I would first check that the transformer is putting out the correct voltage (22 to 26 volts) to the controller.Good luck and have a great day.
