QuestionI discovered at least 2 of my sprinkler heads are leaking. When I unscrewed both from their supply pipe outlets, there was enough water coming out of the pipe to fill the hole I dug to gain access to remove them, within a minute or so - even though the controller was off.
I believe I traced the problem to the valve that feeds them water. Water sprays from the body of this valve when I manually turn it on.
I believe water is leaking past this valve even when it is closed. I watched a video that described the same problem in a similar valve. The video demonstrated how to replace a diaphram gasket (with a seat disk embedded in it).
Does this sound like what is wrong and how to repair it? Also, the only marking on the valve is the word Hardie. I read online Irritrol bought Hardie. Is this true? Do I go to Irritrol to find the new diaphram for the Hardie valve?
Thank you
AnswerHi Pat,
When you turn on the valve manually using the bleed screw is normal that water comes on. Sometimes the sprinklers locates at the lowest sites drain the remaining water inside the pipes, this could be a lot of water. If this is the problem you should buy sprinklers with check valve and install it in place of the leaking ones. (like RAIN BIRD 1804-SAM Sprinkler Spray)its costs like $3 at www.sprinklerwarehouse.com. If the problem is at the valve you can buy the diaphragm for the irritrol valve.
