QuestionI have an Irritol RD 600 irrigation system. It is about 12 years old. It works fine all year but during the summer it seems to overheat. I live in AZ so, it's HOT and the unit receives direct afternoon sunlight. This is the second summer that it has performed inconsistently. I have taken the time/control unit out, let it cool down for a day or so, plug it back in and it seems to work again for awhile. However, in another couple days it automatically shuts off again. Does this mean I need to replace the timer/control piece or is this common in extreme heat conditions?
AnswerHey Kerri, we also are located in the phoenix area, but have never had problems with excessive heat effecting this particular controller. But I would not rule it out. I would suggest taking just the panel out of the controller and taking it to a irrigation supply store called "Sprinkler World of Arizona" . They can do a diagnostic check on it for you to see if it is okay or needs to be repaired or replaced. You might also want to think about moving the controller to a different location, or trying to shade it if it is indeed getting too hot. Good luck and have a great day.
