QuestionWe have a Rainbird ESP-16LX+ sprinkler system that recently began blowing the 15A fuse inside the house (not the fuse inside the controller enclosure). The fuse doesn't blow right away; it takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour before it blows, even when the sprinkler system is not running. This makes me think it's not a solenoid problem. There is also a low voltage patio lighting system on the same 15A breaker (which plugs into a GFCI outlet, which I just replaced with a new one), but I'm 99% sure this is not causing the problem, because the fuse still blows even when we unplug the lighting transformer. Many thanks for any ideas you might have.
AnswerThe ESP itself uses only 24V. the only part that uses 110V is the transformer, so check the junction box inside the ESP (lower end) and check the connections, be sure the ground (green wire) is secure. If all look fine, replace the transformer (input 110V, output 24V) you can check it at www.rainbird.com or at any electrical store.
Good luck
