Questionrecently had my house re-sided., Is it possible that the wires were re-connected incorrectly? I see two black wires going behind the scenes (to the internal transmitter). They are connected to wires within the AC cord - one to black and the other to white. A third turquoise wire is not connected to anything ( Is that a ground from the ac plug wires?) does it matter which internal black wire gets connected to the white/black/turquoise ac wires? Second possible problem might be that the connections to the ac wire are good, but i did have to clear out a big bee/bug hard dirt nest from the very section where the two black wires head back into the transmitter - could that nest have loosened the connection behind the scenes? Would I be able to get behind there to see and fix?
AnswerHey Judy, the Hunter controller in question is notorious for not working correctly, and giving the no AC symbol, even though it could be getting a good charge. First check the wires (110 volt) going to the transformer, black should be to black, and white to white, and green to ground (even though it doesn't have to be hooked up, it should be). Next check the wires coming out of the transformer to the control panel in back, by removing the bottom panel from the front of the controller. On the terminal strip you will notice the 2 wires coming from the transformer, check the voltage at this point (with a volt/ohm meter) and see if you are getting between 24 to 26 volts. If you are, the the controller is bad and you need to replace the controller. If you are not getting between 24 to 26 volts, the transformer is bad, and you need to replace the transformer. If you need to replace the controller, do not get another Hunter. Get either a Rainbird ESP series controller, or a Irri-trol "Rain Dial" controller. Good luck and have a great day.
