QuestionHi
I have struck a very odd problem with Hunter EC and XC controllers showing error messages.
I installed 3 ecs in a 3 unit development recently and 2 have shown err messages (not P err).
I have checked and rechecked the field wiring and all is as it should be. I can guarantee that!
I removed one of the controllers from the wall and took it home to bench test it. I wired 3 solenoids directly into the controller (pump/master stn 1 stn 2)
I then operated it manually.
It would function fine on 9/10 occasions but on the other very odd occasion it would show an err message THEN the valve would open. The display would show the time not the run time for the valve.
Perhaps you can suggest what it might be? I am guessing the controller is faulty. I am wondering if it could be caused by faulty electrics in the customers home?
The second issue relates to an XC unit I installed in the same set of units to replace an EC. After working well for one week the XC held station 2 permanently open. I know because i inspected the solenoid (K Rain brand) and changed it for another which did the same. It was wired correctly and worked fine for over a week, however now this error is occuring. Strangely I connected a rainmaster controller and the problem resolved itself.
Could I have got a bad batch of both ec and xc controllers?!
I bench tested the XC but with no problems.
Thanks
Andrew
AnswerSince you are having problems with more than one controller, and they are different controllers, I would suspect something in the wiring of the valves. Maybe the common wire has a short or bad connection somewhere. This has happened to me before. I also think you should contact Hunter and ask them what they think about it. They are usually good about responding to questions.
