QuestionWondering how to get rid of what sounds to be air inside sprinkler circuit. Everytime I open either valve i get a loud vibrating sound then it will go away after leaving the sprinklers on. When I close the valve I get a little of the same result. Gardner says it's high pressure on the line. The house water lines sound fine, although I did hear some water hammering under the kitchen but later realized it was due to sprinkler valves being closed to quickly. On the irrigation side, I get the noise. I checked the pressure coming out of the washer line and read 60psi. I've tried bleeding a couple of tee's the Gardner installed along the line (6 - 7" tee for irrigating the flowers/shrubs) but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions?
Rainbird Antisiphon valves 3/4" (2)
Hunter PGP rotary sprinkler heads. No check valves
Main water line is 1"
AnswerHey Jesse, I hope this helps. 60 psi does not sound like a excessive amount of pressure. 80 plus psi would be alot of pressure. What you are describing does sound like you are getting a water "hammer" effect. Where were the valves installed? Were they installed or connected off the main water line coming to the house, or were they installed off of a hose bib or not off of the mainline. If they were installed off of a hose bib lets say in the back off the house, then the water must travel through the house to reach the valves, and this just adds to your problem. If the valves were installed off the mainline to the house, what I would suggest, is turn the valves on slower and let the pressure build up slowly, and you should not have this problem, and also turn the valves off slowly. I this doesn't help, you can put a unit called a water hammer arrestor in each of your lines, and this will help from getting that "hammer" effect. Let me know if I can be of more help, thanks and have a great day.
