QuestionI am installing a Griswold Model 2285 Pressure reducing-surge anticipation valve- in a 4in line. The depth of the line is such that I need to raise a portion to install the valve, which consists of the Griswold valve and a 4in gate valve upstream. Using 45's seems to make more sense, but I have limited space, and know I need to provide as much straight pipe prior to and after the valve to prevent cavitation. The valve itself is being used to lower PSI for 14 valves downstream. Each valve is a rotor valve, with rainbird 5004's, and hunter 1.5 valves.
Using 90's would be easier, but that would seem to make things much more prone to cavitation and turbulence, which might affect how the valve operates.
I would appreciate an opinion, if you can give one based on the limited amount of detail I have provided.
thanks so much,
Jim
AnswerHey Jim, my first question would be why do you have to raise this pipe? Can't you just get a deeper vault? If you have to raise the pipe, I would suggest as you already have indicated, to use a couple of 45's on both sides of the assembly. Good luck and have a great day.
