Question
Outside Pipes
I just bought a house in KS and know I have to winterize the sprinkler system in a couple of months. I believe the existing system on my house is setup to drain without having to pay to have it blown out (there is a valve in the basement for draining), but right outside the house the pipes bend in a way that makes it look like there is no way the water could drain from the system (see pic). As info, the drain inside the basement is about 2 inches lower than where the pipe in the pic enters the wall (it's by the ceiling beam). Thanks for any help you can provide.
AnswerHey Michael, I hope this helps. Normally if the system can be drained without being blown out, there will be other drain(s) out in the yard that also need to be opened. From the picture it appears that just the drain valve in the basement is not going to drain the system properly. I would look out in the yard for a plastic box (valve box) and see if you have other drains by these boxes. If you have an air compressor, you can blow out the system yourself. I would suggest having the system blown out, especially if you do not know where the other drains are located. Good luck and have a great day.
