QuestionHi. I set up a solenoid sprinkler control system for my father a few years ago. The controller activates a zone and turns on the pump. The well pump just died. The well guy is hesitant to install a pump because if a solenoid fails, he says the pump will burn up, and he doesn't want that responsibility. Is there a pressure release valve I can install that will release water if/when a solenoid fails?
AnswerHey Gary, I hope this helps. Yes there is such a thing, but it is called a pressure "relief" valve. It can be installed and actually be piped back to the well in case there is a problem, and the relief water will go back into the well so you don't suck it dry. Also some pumps are designed to cut-off if the pressure gets too high. You might want to check around for another pump installer that is more familiar with the situation you have. Good luck and have a great day.
