QuestionON ONE STATION THE SPRINKLERS ARE FROM 6FT HIGHER THAN THE CONTROL VALVES ON THE FURTHEST AWAY TO 3 FT ON THE CLOSEST, WHEN THE VAVLE SHUTS OFF THE SPRINKLERS DRAIN BACK AND RUN OUT THE LOWEST ONE, THAT'S OK BUT THE VALVE WILL NOT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. I TRIED CHANGING VALVES, THIS DID NO GOOD, WOULD A CHECK VALVE JUST AFTER THE CONTROL VALVE WORK TO KEEP ANY BACK PRESSURE OFF THE CONTROL VALVE? OR WOULD A (T) FITTING WITH A SCREW IN DRAIN VALVE WORK? SHOULD THIS BE IN LINE AFTER THE LAST SPRINKLER? ALL PARTS ARE ORBIT SPRINKLERS AND VALVE ASSEMBLY. THANK YOU.
AnswerHey Larry, I hope this helps. It shouldn't matter if the valve is higher than the heads, the valve should still shut off completly. To keep the water from draining, put an inline check valve in, on the lateral line going out, but before the first head (or branch to the other heads). You could also change your heads to a Rainbird brand. They have a spray head called a SAM, that when it pops back down, will seal the head, and not allow the water to flow out of it. Let me know if you have any more questions, thanks and have a great day.
