QuestionI am planning on putting an 2" irrigation well in, but the 2 companies I have called are worried the water table is too deep. I live in new Mexico and am only 5'-7' above the Rio Grande flood plain. No one around me has a shallow well. The property behind my house has a deep well with a water table around 20', my property is 4'-6' low than his. I was looking at sprinkler pumps that say 20' but I'm not sure if that is the bottom of the well or the water table?
I can not afford a 4" well but that is all the companies keep telling me I need. Would I be able to use a 1.5hp or 2hp Centrifugal, a jet pump or something else? I also thought about digging down 2' or 3' would that help?
AnswerI am no expert on water wells, so anything I have to say is just from experiance. I had a well that was 6" casing with a 1" supply line, connected to a submersable pump. I would recommend the submersible over the jet or centrifugal---much less to worry about. The problem with a small casing is that the pump may remove too much water too fast for the well to recover, and you get air.
