RD600 EXT

Question
Got a Rain Dial RD600. I was working yesterday but today saw flashing FUS on the controller. Tried to replace the fuse and the battery but the error is not gone. Tried the troubleshooting procedure in the user's guide and set the zone # for a few minutes and manually start. It turned to OFF in a few seconds. After trying all zone #s, FUS flashing with all #s I tried. This means all valves are short circuit? I thought it was the fuse though. Anyway also tried to turn off the power source and hoped to reset but it didn't work. I ran out of ideas. Please help.

Answer
Dear Robert, I hope this helps. It sounds as if the controller is shot. What I would try, is pull the common field wire from the terminal in the back of the controller. Then try to turn it on manually, and see what happens. If it does the same thing, then the controller is shot and you need to get a new one. Keep in mind, that you can just buy the panel, and not have to replace the whole case and circuit board. If you look in the back of the controller, you will see a ribbon of wires that plugs into the back of the controller from the panel. This will puull straight out and the panel will unhook by pulling straight out on the plastic hinges. Take this to an irrigation supply store and you can just buy the panel. Usually some controllers can be repaired, but I've dealt with this controller so many times, that it is not a good idea, just get a new one. It should run between $85.00 to $100.00. Good luck and have a good day.
