hardie irrigation valve diaphram

Question
I need to replace the diaphram on a hardie valve. The diaphram stem goes down in the body of the valve. It has a somewhat bell shaped piece that screws to the bottom of the stem. How do I replace this? The bell sphaped piece is much larger than the body.

Answer
Hey Charles, I hope this helps. Normally you can just buy a whole new diaphram, stem and all. Alot of times the problem is in the stem, where the metering pin goes through the hole, and not in the rubber washer. The rubber washer is larger than the seat down below, because it sits on top of the seat, and doesn't fit into the hole, thus it should be bigger. When you say the  bell shaped piece is much larger than the "body", I'm assuming you mean the plastic seat on the bottom of the valve. The body would be the piece that  the screws, screw into. Just to make it clear, the plastic stem should stick up, and the nut will be on the bottom. The only other thing, is if you have the wrong size diaphram. These valves come in 1", 1 1/2", and 2" sizes.  You should be able to size it up with the one you took out. I'm hoping I answered your question. Let me know if I canbe of anymore assistance. Thanks and have a great day.
