QuestionJim, I just realized that my Hunter Pro-C isn't working. I live in Houston (no winterizing req'd) and decided to turn off the system for a couple of months. When I turned it back on manually ("run all stations") I noticed water was not spraying out of the heads, but barely seeping out if that. The pipes outside are squeaking and humming. I did shut off the valves outside with the system on "run" mode (the main house valve & sprinkler system valve) & turn them back on hoping to correct the problem. Unfortunately I do not think I did this in the correct order to fix the problem. The squeaking and humming went away once I powered the system off, but returns when I "run" the system. Again - still no water either.
Answer Dear Anjela, I hope this helps. It sounds to me like you have a restriction somewhere in the system. I would first make sure that the main shut off valve is indeed open all the way. If it is a gate valve, sometimes these have a tendency to stick closed, if the gate breaks off inside the valve. Do you have more than one automatic valve? If you have more than one automatic valve, and all of them are doing this, then there is probably a problem with your main shut off valve. If you only have one automatic valve, then your diaphram is probably bad inside the valve. This can be replaced by simply unsrewing the screws from the top of the valve and removing the old one and putting a new one in. You just need to know what brand and model number you have. Let me know if I can help you anymore, thanks and have a great day.
