QuestionMy sprinkler system isn't working. When i turn on manually, all i can hear is water draining from the solenoids. there is no pressure i think. also, when i turn one soleniod on, one sprinkler head starts seeping water!!! What can i do to fix this
AnswerHey Ross, I hope this helps. I'm assuming when you say "turn on manually", you're talking about your controller. The sound you are hearing is probably the solenoid buzzing, this is normal. To tell if you have pressure to the valve, first you need to find out where the main shut off valve to the sprinklers is.First shut off this valve before you continue. Second, unscrew a solenoid from any of the valves. Third, turn the main shut off valve back on. Now check the valve you just un-screwed the solenoid off of, and see if you get a stream of water from the solenoid port, and if the valve is working now. If your getting no water out of this valve, then you have a blockage in your mainline. If the valve is now working, then you have a bad diaphram in the valve, and it needs to be replaced. Normally if your getting a little bit of water out of a valve to the sprinkler heads, but not full pressure, then the diaphram is bad, as long as your getting full pressure to the valves. When you say one head starts seeping water, I don't know if you mean a little bit of water out of the top of the head, or alot of water from underneath the head. If you mean a little bit of water from the top of the head, then again the diaphram needs to be changed. If your getting alot of water from underneath the head, then you need to dig down to the pipe. Between the pipe and the head, there is whats called a nipple. Alot of times this will crack and leak water. Just un-screw it out of the head and the fitting in the pipe, and screw a new one on. Hopefully this helps you out. The questions are hard to answer without more information. Let me know if Ican help you out anymore. Thanks and have a great day.
