QuestionHi Jeff: I'm on the Legal expert panel so let me return the favor sometime. I have put in a myoporum hedge that runs uphill for about 80 feet. I have strung stardard irrigation hose with emiters and want to connect it to a simple garden hose at the bottom of the line. I am waiting for the weather to clear up so in the meantime maybe you can save me some trouble. Firstly, will it work connecting at the bottom of the line instead of running the garden hose to the top and letting gravity do the rest and secondly, do I need a pressure regulator on the line? I figured that control with the faucet would be sufficient for me to increase or decrease pressure. I know this is the cheapy approach. Advice appreciated. Glenn in Santa Barbara
AnswerYou should be OK with the line pressure as far as operation goes, but I would be a little concerned about the possiblitly of backflow from the tubing in some instances. You can get a cheap anti-siphon device that attached to the hose bibb, that should protect you. Also use pressure compensating emitters to maintain constant pressure in your tubing.
