WE HAVE JUST MOVED INTO A HOME THAT HAS LAWN IRRIGATION SET UP- BUT WE ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE TIMER PANEL ANYWHERE ?? NOT SURE WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE AS WELL AS WHERE THEY MAY HAVE PUT IT. HAVE LOOKED IN THE ROOF- ALL SHEDS ETC ETC. PLEASE CAN YOU GIVE US ANY SUGGESTIONS. THANKYOU KINDLY

Common locations are: in the garage, on an outside wall, near the electrical panel, near the irrigation valves, near the well pump, in the laundry room, pool filter area.

It would most likely be a plastic box with a door on it, usually white, off white, green or brown, and have wires or conduit for wires running to it.  

Look at a few websites of irrigation controllers to get an idea of the appearance.
