QuestionQUESTION: I have a Hunter Pro-C sprinkler system controller (about 6 years old). When I manually turn on to water the Zone 3 (of the sprinkler system) I get the message "Err", then the controller starts to count down from 34 to zero, then it displays "Err" message again. Zone 3 water never get turned on. Do you know what is going on? Other zone (I have 6 zones) is working fine. Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi,
The "err" message generally refers to a bad solenoid or a short in the wiring. I must say, I've never saw one count down though.
The easiest way to determine the problem is. Remove the wire in the controller on terminal 3. Then retry a manual cycle. If the controller act normal the it is indeed a solenoid or wire. If the controller has the same problem, you could try a reset. This info is in your owners manual.

QUESTION: Hi Matt,
I follows your instructions and find out the wire/solenoid have problem. How can I determine whether it is wire or the solenoid. Can I buy the solenoid from Home Depot/Menard?
Thank you.

AnswerThe best way to test the wire vs the solenoid is to disconnect one of the wire on the solenoid. The retest the zone. If the "err" goes away then it's the solenoid.
You can try a "retail" store for the solenoid replacement. It completely depends on the exact valve you have. I'd suggest unscrewing the solenoid and taking it with you. Carefully match the solenoids to yours. If it is a Hunter Valve the look at the "ORBIT" valves. That is Hunter's retail product line.
Good luck
