Question
I just moved into a house in South Carolina.  There is a James Hardie sprinkler system, but no key.  If I break into the box, will I be able to turn the thing on and make it work?  Apparently the owner cannot find the key either.

Breaking into the controller cabinet should not harm the electrical - if done properly. However, I would suggest going to this link and purchasing a key.
