the electric wire connected to a one and a half hp pump  has three independent wire connection namely color coded white  black and the ground wire. facing the back part of the motor i have connected the white wire to the extreme right lug  and the black wire in the middle lug  and finally the grond connection to the extreme left connected to the metal casing. please advise if this is correct thank you

Its hard to say for sure.  Usually with the pump there is a wiring diagram on the removable cover or somewhere else that shows how to wire it.  Most pumps can be wired for both 120V and 240V, so it is important to get it right.  You may be able to take it in to a shop and have them advise you.
