QuestionI have a Raidbird LX+ series which I believe has been working fine for several years, however, this past week we had a fair amount of rain and more forecasted, so I manually switched the controller to the off position (which has always worked in the past as far as I know). To my surprise, I found that the system still came on tonight. I know when the dial is left at some other position that's the correct behavior, but I'm certain it was set to off this time, and with the blinking digit in the time to confirm that. Why would it have still come on at the scheduled time?
AnswerThanks for the question.
The Rainbird LX series controllers had a bit of a problem with the selector dial. Especially if they had been in the same position for a while. When you rotated the dial, sometimes the contacts wouldn't make connection. I think it is due to dust etc.
Try rotating the selector dial back and fourth, all the way around, etc. a few times. This should clean the contacts inside and hopefully fix the problem. (not a very technical repair is it?)
If this doesn't fix it then you may be looking at a new controller. Though, if all else is working fine, you could just install a switch on the "com" wire which would prevent the system from running. Sort of a manual rainswitch.
