pump sizing

Question
I want to water a pasture. My creek is 600' away from the first sprinkler outlet. I will set the pump at the creek edge with about 5' of vertical lift/suction. The pipe will run up hill with about 30' of lift. I was looking at using 1 Nelson Big Gun Sprinkler 75, moving it from outlet to outlet, so only one would be sprinkling at a time. The furthermost outlet would be another 300' with no lift. I'm using PVC pipe. What type of pump and size should I use. Thanks, Mike

Answer
Thank for your question.
I based my calculations on a Big Gun 0.6 nozzle. This will require 75 GPM at 60PSI. Min.
A Berkeley B1WP 7.5HP will provide 75 GPM at 90PSI from the pump discharge. If you use a 3" PVC pipe for your service line the friction loss will be minimal.(less than 10PSI) You elevation loss will be about 14PSI.  Through in a few more PSI loss for fittings and you have 60PSI at you last connection.
If you have a pump manufacturer preference let me know and I'll look-up a model for you.

Matt
