QuestionQUESTION: House sprinkler; 3 zones; Hunter EC controller, with one SRV & 2 hpv valves. The control wires connect to a solenoid; each solenoid(3), screws clock-wise to close, and counter to open the solenoid. If ANY solenoid is opened too far (counter clock-wise), the #1 zone shows water coming out the sprinklers!!
My REAL problem (need a solution...) Controller is on manual, solenoids are open but not far enough to send to #1; Sending water to the #2 or #3 zone (or even #1); water making noise going thru the pipes... but VERY LITTLE coming out the sprinkler heads!! It worked last week, but not NOW... ??
Do I have bad Solenoids... Bad Valves... or a LEAK underground that will be soooo ugly to find (my last resort...)
ANSWER: I guessing your #1 valve has a leaky diaphragm. Possibly a leaky solenoid. I'd replace #1 and see what happen. I'll bet the problem goes away.
With one valve leaking a little water, none of the other valves can get enough water to open fully, making it look as it the whole system is junk.
If this doesn't help, reply back.

QUESTION: Hi Matt,
Thanks for your help ! For YOUR future reference... the problem was actually in a section of the system... BEFORE the Hunter valves and solenoids...
The system has two (2) shut-off levers for the water, and a "Pressure relief" section, between the 2 shut-off levers.
I disassembled the components of this section, to find a plastic piece with springs... had turned side-ways and lodged into the pipe opening, where the water continued to the valves & sprinklers.
Hope you get the mental picture... Turn the plastic piece vertical, and the pressure is back to normal... :)
Take care, Joe
AnswerThanks Joe for your reply back.
That item you repaired is the backflow preventor. It is very unusual it would fail like it did. I'm glad you found it. That would have taken many reply's to diagnose that one.
That's one of the difficulties of "on-line" diagnosis. I can't touch or see what the other person can. Something that takes me 1 minute to do, requires 100's of word to tell.
Thanks again for the update.
