QuestionWe have a 2HP pump with intake coming from a lake. Our problem is that it clogs constantly! We are in approve. 3' of water. We put the foot valve in a 5 gallon bucket to help keep out debris. We also purchased a sock made by "Deko?" to help. Nothing seems to work. We use pump for sprinkler system. It works great as long as it's not clogged. We are forever changing filters in the heads and cleaning the sock off. Any ideas??? Thanks, Shari
AnswerWell... Lake filters are a tough subject. What works in one lake doesn't necessarily work in another. The secret is to filter out only particles which clog your sprinklers and let the rest pass. The "sock" filter you have probably is filtering too fine and is always clogging.
A filter which works in most cases is called a PVC well point or slotted screen. You need to have a 20-25 gauge or slot size. That is the opening size of the holes.
Another filter is called a "Guzzler" and/or "Algae Queen". Both are partially filled with pea gravel and work similar to a stream bed, stopping the course particles and allowing the finer items to pass. Most of these products are made by "Bigfoot Manufacturing".
If you can't fine a dealer for them, reply back with the State your in and I'll locate a distributor for you.
