QuestionQUESTION: First, thank-you for the service! My sprinkler system makes me sad on a regular basis. My question is would it be possible, and if so, worth while putting a filter in my system? I have a 3 zone (9,9,&10 sprinklers each)lake feed system and I seem to go through about 3-4 rotor (a mix of rainbird, toro, orbit, 15 in system) a year. Usually they stop rotating.Thank-you...

ANSWER: It really depends on the type of debris in the system. If it is mud and muck, you may think about adjusting the location of the suction line on the pump. If the debris is particulate matter, a good quaility irrigation filter installed just downstream from the pump may do the trick.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info.! One more if I may, my 1 1/2HP pump is around 20 years old and recently started showing the following symptoms. It turns on and runs great for 40-50 minutes, then stops for 10 minutes or so, then cycles 10 on 10 off from then on. Is it over heating due to old age? I moved it around the same time this all started, it's now farther from the circuit box, could it be the size or length of the wire? Thanks again....

AnswerIt could be a couple of things. Your pump and motor could be getting worn, and might be heating up, which would account for the cycling. However since you mentioned that you moved it further away from the electrical source, it might not be getting the right amount of power that it needs, especially being old. You could try upsizing the wire to the pump.
