AnswerI wish I had a dollar for every time I saw one of those.
They make a riser extractor tool, problem is were to find one.
I wish I had an easy fix but, I don't. What I've done with tough risers is: Use a hack saw blade or some type of blade that fits into the hole. By hand, saw into the riser, up and down, just before you get to the PVC fitting. Then go on the opposite side and do it again. This give "relief" to the threads. Now, use a wide screw driver or a piece of flat steel and slide it into the slots you just cut. Try turning the screw driver CCW. It should turn.
If this doesn't work, you need to replace the fitting or try to chip the riser out of the fitting. (I didn't say this wasn't easy) Chipping the riser isn't that hard since you have already cut the slots into it.
Hope this helps.
