QuestionMy irrigation pump is in my garage and it was very cold this winter. I see a crack in the housing of the pump. The motor runs but the pump won't pick the water up. Can I just replace the pump without the motor?
AnswerThis will be a common question this spring, it was a cold, cold winter.
Yes you can just replace the pump housing rather than the entire pump assembly. The housings are generally available from pump suppliers and irrigation contractors. You will need the pump model # (they are usually on the pump housing, not the motor end) and HP of the motor. The only drawback is you may, depending on the location of the crack, need to install a new shaft seal also. They can be a little tricky because they are fragile.
