QuestionJim Grote has expressed his unequivocal dislike of "saddles" for connectors. The contractor with the best offer is saying that they will only install a system with saddles and that "Blazing Saddles" is a reliable connector. Jim, my question to you is whether you feel there are exceptions to your opinion and whether Blazing Saddles is a consideration. With the amount of money it is going to cost I don't want to be getting the lowest price and then paying for the difference down the road with leaking connections. Your thoughts please. Thks.
AnswerMy name is Jeff, and I dont like saddles either for installation. They are prone to leaks and the debris from the tap has to go somewhere. I have used them for repairs when glued fittings are difficult, and even with diligence, they sometimes still leak or get clogged. I dont get the insistance on using the saddles. They are more costly and difficult from my point of view.
