cant get system to turn on.

Question
QUESTION: I ran my system a couple of times this spring, and it worked fine.  Today, I can't get it to turn on, manually or with the timer.  It is not the master valve, nothing was changed from when it worked.  It is a Toro controller.  The controller timer thinks it is working, but it is not.  Any ideas?
ANSWER: When you say "manually" do you mean manually with the timer or at the valve? Check the fuses in the timer. Have you had a power surge or lightning strike?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I checked the fuses, they look fine (nothing looks wrong in the tube).  i tried at one of the manual controllers in the ground, and they worked fine.  I also mean "manual" on the controller box.  But, we had a power flutter last night or the night before.
Do I need to do more with the fuses that look with the human mark 1a eyeball at the filament and think it looks ok?

Answer
You would be able to see if the fuse was blown. Do you have a rain sensor? Check the ohms on the terminals. Turn a volt meter to ohms and put the black on the common terminal and the red on each zone terminal. Depending on the valves you should get around fifty to sixty ohms. Make sure you don't have the controller running when you do this. If that checks out turn the volt meter to volts and put the black on the common terminal and check each zone terminal. It should read somewhere around twenty-four volts. If it doesn't then the controller might be bad.
