QuestionThis is for a sprinkler system in my yard.
My 20 year old pump burned up. I called a well person in to check the well. I was told that I needed a new 3 point well dug as the water table in the current well was around 28 feet and if I installed a new pump it would not last. Is there some way I can determine the depth of my well? It has a pvc pipe with an elbow where it connects to the old pump. I thought of tying a weight to a string but would have to cut the elbow off which isn't a problem. I really want to know if there is a way to check the depth of the water and what it means if it is 28 feet down. Won't a deep water pump work versus a new well? I apologize for my ignorance.
Thank you for your patience.
Kathy
AnswerKathy,
Please don't apologize for your ignorance, that's why we are here. Cutting off the elbow and dropping in a weight is logical but it will only tell you the depth of the pipe. You really do need a well company to tell you that. If they told you that you need a new well they are probably right. There are many variables. To be safe I would get many estimates from many well companies. Doing the wrong thing could end up costing you thousands more in the end. Sorry for the delay in answering this question. I hope this has helped.
