I have an in ground vinyl lined pool; when it was first installed the builder did not hit water so no additional (or any I don't recall) stone was installed to aid in drainage. Now following a heavy rain I have exessive water pushing the liner up causing wrinkles and damage to the walls etc. I just replaced the liner and I am looking for an out of the box solution to solve my water problem. I have considered surface drainage solutions but I don't think this will move a sufficient amount of water away. I am also thinking of a sump pump type system inserted into a hole/well near the pool.  Do you have any other thoughts or recommendations?

thats a problem. if it's pushing the liner up, then you have water getting deep enough to get under the liner? you must be down in a very low spot. so surface drainage might not be the answer and you want to do this one time and get it right the first time. rather then keep having to dig and dig again. if the water all seems to be coming from one direction you can try digging a sump hole or sump wall consisting of chat rock to act as a collector of the water then use a sump pump to get it out of there. between the rock sump and the pool a barrier made out of landscape fabric or just a good liner material of some sort would guide it to a sump pump hole if you have gravity to work with. let me know if this is any help. also I am assuming it is pushing the liner up with the pool full of water. that is quite a bit of hydrostatic pressure. if it is doing this with the pool empty, then just leave it full of water after wintering. but you are in virginia beach (lovely there isn't it) and I doubt it you winterized it.
