QuestionI have a hunter irrigation system in my southern Oregon yard. I believe it was installed with PGP heads when the house was built, about 12 years ago. The system has had little care and several of the heads were replaced since they were spouting fountains of water. Most of the other heads seem to function okay except that on some, the arc adjustment seems to be set (they can be moved manually through the arc)but they get to the right stop and fail to rotate to the left stop, resulting in very drenched areas as well as very wet areas. The heads are relatively expensive so I am trying to avoid replacing the ones that do not rotate. are there parts that can be replaced or do you have other suggestions? Also what maintenance needs to be done to ensure that the sprinklers continue to function?
Thanks for your help!
Answer Donna,
I'm aware of the problem Hunter had with the heads spouting water. The cap/seal was the problem and sometimes you could fix that with teflon tape around the threads.
The fact that they are getting stuck is unusual and I am thinking that the heads got sitrpped out by some one adjusting them by grabbing on the turret or pop up part of the head and striping the gears. When that happened the plastic gear teeth broke. You can try just changing the adjustment slightly so that the head doesnt change direction on that bad gear tooth and see if that works. If not replace them. The heads at cost are really only 8-11 dollars each. It's the mark up and the labor. so maybe by your own heads, mark the one that are bad and have some one do it or try to replace them yourself. Let me know,Jim
