QuestionI have an area behind my garage that is about 40 x 28, currently covered with landscape fabric. If I brought in 18 yards of topsoil can I plant grass seed right over the fabric? The 18 yards should give me about 5" of cover. The soil below the landscape fabric is full of junk so I'd rather not pull up the fabric.
AnswerSounds like it will be fine as long as you have 4-5" of cover. Note, weeds and grass may grow roots into tiny holes in the fabric and then when they are pulled it may pull fabric up if soil is thin.
Its your call. The grass will live, but it may become problematic later on.
Good Luck
