Do I need to put plastic or something between the dirt and the foundation of the house with a 18 inch raised flower bed against it or is it ok to put the dirt against the foundation?

Hi Lorraine, the answer is most definitely 'yes' unfortunately!

Anything that bridges the damp course in a building will potentially cause damp problems.

Check with your builder though to find out where the damp course finishes and then ask his advice on how best to isolate the bed from your wall, if you decide to goahead with the work- its all possible!
