QuestionI'm attaching an awning to my house. The awning is 8 feet 2 inches long and factory set at a 10 degree slope. How high must I mount the bar on the house to have the front end of the awning at a height of 90 inches. How high if the slope is 20 degrees.(it's adjustable). Thanks for your help.
AnswerHello, Paul:
At 10 degrees slope, the "fall" of the awning will be 1'-5". So add that to your 90" (or 7'-6"), and the mounting height should be 8'-11" at the house.
It will also "foreshorten" or shrink by 1-1/2"...The overall length will be 8'-1/2". Does the manufacturer take this into account in the installation instructions?
At a 20 degree slope, the awning will descend 2'-9 1/2", so a mounting height of 10'-3 1/2" should be used...again it will foreshorten by 5 15/16", and the overall length will be only 7'-8 1/16".
These measurements are from the point of connection on the house to the "tip" of the awning, or 8'-2". If there is a mounting beam that is offset under the awning's eave, the distances will slightly different, but this is a close approximation without me standing there, tape measure in hand.
By the way, it is simple geometry, but I "cheated" by using AutoCAD to do the math for me. Converting to inches & fractions is a pain. I'd rather let the computer do it for me.
