Question
I recently found a beautiful but neglected bird bath. I tnink its made of tara cota. What should I paint it with that will not harm the birds?

Hello Cindy, if the bird bath really is made of terracotta (cooked earth) then it really shouldn't be painted- quite honestly!

However if you wish to cover it at all costs, try a chalk/lime-based paint. Why don't you just paint the part that doesn't come into contact with the water, leaving the part that contains the water natural? It will only turn green anyway.

If you require more information then unfortunately this is out of my field.
