QuestionWe have a large area in our yard that has poor soil where nothing grows but weeds. We have killed the weeds and want to cover area with gravel (actually called scoria here in ND, rather sharp, coase material used for roads). We want to keep the scoria contained so it doesn't spill onto the grass and so we can mow without driving on the scoria. There would be about 200 feet of edge that we have to deal with. We want to do the work ourselves but are in our sixties and don't want to have to do alot of heavy manual labor. What could you suggest that would be relatively inexpensive?
AnswerI would suggest black plastic recycled edging:

Or post-consumer recycled plastic edging:

Of which, there are many styles and installation options...Maybe too many. Both are relatively inexpensive. These are the "commercial grade" versions. There are definitely cheaper substitutions, if you want to squeeze a few more pennies. You get what you pay for, however, and more flimsy edging will fail sooner.
Both are easy to self-install. No concrete, no heavy parts, forms, etc.
Both of these companies manufacture our "workhorses" of edging here, plus, they are a good re-use of post-consumer plastics.
