QuestionI live in a house where in the backyard neighbor's yard there are about 20 cyprus trees which are about 60ft tall leaning against our common fence which is falling apart. I recently had a pool expert look at the backyard pool in which he found a large crack in the pool extending out toward the cyprus trees. The pool is built about three feet from the fence line where the trees are. The filter system is shot because of the needles from the trees and the backyard has shade the majority of the day. Any suggestions about what it will take to get rid of these trees and are their roots destroying my pool and backyard?
AnswerYou could dig a trench along the property line to a depth of 3 to 4 feet and cut any roots you find. But you need to be sure that you don't have a local code requiring you to save trees or protecting the trees. Other than that, you could be friendly with your neighbor and offer to remove them at your cost and possibly plant something smaller for privacy if they want.
Good Luck.
