QuestionI am completely re-doing my front yard. Right now it has nothing- it is just wood chips and rocks. We want to put in some grass, but other than that low water type plants, but not all cacti. We live in Colorado Springs so it is fairly dry. Any plant recommendations?
AnswerYes.
Succulents.
You can create a tropical-looking paradise and have the lowest water bill in the neighborhood. Succulents are very adaptable although you might have to protect them during freezing, which you would also have to do with cacti.
Cacti and succulents can survive on low water because they have thick stems full of water. However, that's also why they are susceptible to freezing.
For some ideas, see the following link. All of the pictures in the file are on properties of mine in Texas and Southern California. I hate water bills so I use only plants that can survive on whatever rainfall the local area provides, and can survive the various droughts that those areas have to go through sometimes.
