Question
Hi.  My neighbors house is about 7ft away from mine.  She announced today that she was having 3 hibiscus planted this coming week.  I have just completed foundation work including new tuck pointing of the concrete block and drain tile to dry up a very wet basement.  Will the plants compromise my new foundation? (I'm really not in the mood to do it again $$$)  If hibiscus isn't good, could you recommend something else.  Tall, flowers.  It's northeast Iowa. Shade. It rarely dries out fully between the homes.

In Iowa, its not an invasive species, and no mention of root problems.

I think that it will have trouble surviving in heavy shade, so this may solve any potential threat to your new tuck-work...
