QuestionWe've been told that one way to alleviate our once a year basement water problem is to fix the grading of our yard. As you know, contractors want $5,000 + to do the work for us. Is this a job that we (both over 50) can do ourselves?
If so, what is involved? Do we need special dirt and do we need special equipment? Do we need to pull up all of our shrubs and then replant them? Thanks!
AnswerHi Martha,
I would highly recommend having a professional do this job for you. Grading can be a very labor intensive job and be very tricky if you do not know what your doing. The shrubs would have to be dug out an replanted again, the soil has to be screened topsoil. This kind of job can be pricey due to the fact of the labor, amount of materials, and any equipment needed (loaders, transit levels etc....)
You want the job done correctly, and make sure if you do have a professional do it, make sure they guarantee the work. Good luck
