QuestionI live in AZ. I recently (5 months) ago planted 2 sega palms in my backyard by the pool. It's really hot now and we are watering 2xs per day for 10 minutes. They were growing great and now have yellow coming from the spines of the leaves out toward the tips. (no fungus) Do you think I'm watering too much, too little, other ideas? Thanks!
AnswerHey, Elaine.
I think you're watering too much, especially if the yellow is on all branches out toward the tips. If the yellow is just on the lower branches, you might be okay since they might just be yellowing naturally from old age on the lower branches.
When it comes to watering, it's better to water deeply so that the roots will be encouraged to grow deeply and better survive periods of drought. Thus, you would do better to water once a day for 20 minutes rather than twice a day for 10 minutes. But I think every other day for 20 minutes would be better. Also, remember to water at night rather than during the day. Don't water too early at night because then the water could keep the plant/roots wet, resulting in fungus. I usually set my watering for 4:00 a.m.
