QuestionI was looking for someone with a tree expertise but noticed your comment in your profile 'how to use those petunias to increase your home's value'. I had not thought about that. Are you referring specifically to petunias? This is the first year I have not planted them. We decided to get tomatoes instead and there just was no time for anything else. If we sell our house, in the future, how do petunias apply?
AnswerIn most of the studies I have read in my trade journals and magazines such as Money, etc. the very BEST way to acquire quick curb appeal and long-term return on remodeling dollars invested is to landscape!

Better returns than kitchen cabinets, a second bathroom, or even outdoor patios. Better than a 100% return, in some reports. So, for a few dollars on accent color and planted in the right place, you can move an otherwise dull home off of the realtor's MLS sheets.
I said that crack about petunias "tongue in cheek", but any bright flower says, "I'm a loved and cared-for home: buy me!" Tomatoes (though tasty & lovely) just say you like to eat salads. I'd go so far as to plant ornamental cabbage or exotic garden plants like artichokes, instead...

Even in my home garden, I mix flowering plants in among the veggies - Cosmos, Sunflower, Marigolds, etc.
Now, as for trees: They're tons better than a tomato for bringing in the purchase offers!
