QuestionI wanted to lay red bark (douglas fir) in my yard but I have heard horror stories of bugs growing in the bark. I live in Sacramento California and want to research this issue before I end up spending money on something that might hurt my yard and wallet in the long run. I am leaning toward white rock (quartz 1/4 " but it is a little pricey. I understand that I should treat the ground prior and after laying the 2-3 inches of bark on the ground. If I treat the bark, what should I use. I have no problem presently with pests. Please advise which way would be better. Thanks.
AnswerJaime,
Are you laying the bark in you garden beds or in you lawn? If your laying it in your garden beds, I would recommend you use a triple ground hardwood mulch with bark blend, no dyes, for your plants. the redbark will not break down and provide nutrients for plantings. If I am not understanding your question please explain in further detail please so I can help. Thanks
