QuestionI have a 1935 cape cod style house with an enclosed front porch and no front
entrance. Do you have any landscape design solutions for homes with no
front entrance to serve as a focal point?
AnswerI infer that you want the front door to be the focal point (the place where attention is focused). How do people arrive at your house, now? If I were a UPS driver delivering a package, do I know where to go, or do I enter through the back door or kitchen area? I don抰 think the style of the house is as important as helping people figure out where to go.
What you want to create is an intuitive spot where a visitor, coming down your driveway would say, 揂h, there is the front door!?This may be done by creating a wide and inviting pathway, an artistic mailbox, ornate doorbells, an arbor to walk through (an 揳rrival?gate, if you will), etc.
Here are some pictures of classic garden 揻ocal points?

And a website with some discussion of why & how we use them in garden design:

(Sorry in advance about this site抯 揻ree newsletter?pop-up ?still good info on focal points, if you click away the ad)
Hope it helps. ~Marc
